Once masters of Svartholme, the Svartvalds now rule little more than a handful of villages and scattered mining settlements. Their ancestral seat lies abandoned, and their place at Eastholde Court is a reminder of what they have lost.

Yet the Svartvalds have not forgotten what they were.

With fewer lands, fewer soldiers and fewer allies, the family has learned to make use of what remains. Gold, favours and carefully chosen secrets carry further than banners ever did. Their agents move between courts, guilds and taverns, gathering information and quietly removing obstacles.

To outsiders, the Svartvalds are a declining house clinging to old prestige. The Svartvalds know better. A family does not need an army to regain what it has lost.

Sometimes, it only needs the right knife.
