Murkfin
Long before the first castles rose in Westholde, the marshes and forgotten coastlines belonged to the Murkfin.
Legends claim they emerged from the depths countless generations ago, following ancient tides and whispering currents known only to their shamans. They build no great kingdoms, for the sea itself is their inheritance. Hidden among drowned temples, mist covered fens and flooded ruins, Murkfin tribes live as raiders, hunters and guardians of places few outsiders ever return from.
The people of Westholde tell stories of monstrous fishmen stealing livestock beneath the cover of fog, but those who venture too close to the shoreline speak of stranger things. Ancient idols worn smooth by saltwater. Impossible songs echoing beneath the waves. Eyes watching from the darkness below.
The Murkfin do not worship kings or crowns. They answer instead to the endless call of the deep. Their shamans speak of sleeping powers beneath the ocean, beings so ancient that even the oldest forests of Westholde are but fleeting memories to them.
Whether these stories are merely superstition. Or the first whispers of a forgotten truth. Few dare to discover for themselves.
When the tides rise and the marshes fall silent, the raiders emerge from the mist. They strike without warning, taking what they need before disappearing once more into waters that seem eager to swallow every trace of their passing.
